The Doug Jacobson Residents Fund is a 501(c)(3) non profit managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Our mission is to provide funds for services, activities, and equipment for Veterans who reside at the Doug Jacobson Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, FL.
The Fund operates independent of the Veterans Home but works in conjunction with the Home.
The Residents Fund is focused on enhancing the quality of life for our senior Veterans.
We provide internet, TV service, entertainment, holiday parties, specialized medical equipment and personal supplies that are not provided by the State.
In addition, over the years, we have given funds for Honor Flights, a community wide Veterans Day celebration, Christmas gifts, virtual glasses, and computers.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men and women who died. Rather we should thank God such men and women lived. ”

Private First Class Douglas T. Jacobson, Marine Corps. was awarded the MEDAL OF HONOR.
"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the Third Battalion, Twenty-Third Marines, Fourth Marine Division, in combat against enemy Japanese forces during the seizure of Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands, February 26, 1945.
By his dauntless skill and valor, Private First Class Jacobson destroyed a total of sixteen enemy positions and annihilated approximately seventy-five Japanese, thereby contributing essentially to the success of his division's operations against the fanatically defended outpost of the Japanese Empire. His gallant conduct in the face of tremendous odds enhanced and sustained the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."

The Doug Jacobson Residents Fund is a charitable organization registered with the IRS and the State of Florida. 95% of our revenues go directly to services for the veterans.
The Board is comprised of 12 members, most of whom are veterans or who have family members that have served in the armed forces.
The Board members are unpaid volunteers who work to raise funds for the Veterans Home and perform community outreach to educate the community about the Fund.
Despite the limitations imposed by the COVID pandemic, the Fund worked with the Administration of the Veterans Home to provide exercise programs with the purchase of CD's and supplied food for July 4th celebrations.
The Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Home is located at 21281 Grayton Terrace, Port Charlotte, FL. It is a 120 bed state-of-the-art

The home resembles a small village with the resident’s wings opening off a
central hub-like section. This area serves as the “Main Street” of the home,
accommodating a library with Internet accessible computers and an extensive
collection of books, a formal dining room, barber shop, and snack machines.
An assortment of state-of-the-art televisions can be found in Day Rooms and
recreation areas throughout the facility. An outside court yard with gardens, and
extensive screened lanai areas, afford the residents a tranquil environment.
